The Future Land Use element of the Comprehensive Plan models what the land use is currently or should be changed to when the County experiences population growth and urban expansion. The future land use element as well as other elements of the Alachua County comprehensive plan can be downloaded from the Alachua County Growth Management website (see hyperlinks below). The 2010 Comprehensive Plan has been found in compliance by the State Department of Community Affairs (May 2, 2005) and all new development approved by the county must be consistent with the plan as amended. The adopted Future Land Use map was originally maintained on two mylar documents; one for the urban area, one for rural. In June 1999, the Future Land Use map was transferred into a GIS shapefile, by manually recreating the mylar documents.
