Step 1. Is My Permit Eligible?
Remote virtual inspection is an alternative to traditional onsite inspection and can be
used to provide promt and safe interior building inspection services. It is our goal
to continue providing excellent inspection response times while keeping the public
and staff safe. We will be using remote virtual inspections for all AC changeouts and
window and door replacements and for other interior inspections as appropriate. Remote
Virtual Inspections are conducted using a Skype video call on a smart phone or tablet to
interact with the building inspector. See below for detailed instructions.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation while conducting this new method of doing
inspections.

Step 2. Set Up Skype
1. Download Skype:
Make sure you have wifi or 4G wireless service at the job site or on your device.
2. Sign up for a Skype account:
- Please follow Skype's sign up instruction.
- You will need to provide your Skype user name when you schedule the inspection.
Step 3. Schedule the Inspection
Remote inspections are open A.M. and P.M.
To schedule a remote inspection, please call or text 352-213-4958 (Monday-Friday: 8AM-4PM)
The on-site person who receives Skype call must be qualified and have knowledge of building requirements.
Step 4. Start the Inspection
1. Before the Inspection Starts:
- Ensure your smart phone or tablet has 4G connectivity or connection to wifi
- Make sure the smart phone or tablet is fully charged
- Ensure that the necessary tools are available: tape measure, level, step ladder, etc.
- Have the permit and job card ready to show
- Be ready to accept a video call at the scheduled time
- Make sure the auto rotate feature on your phone is turned on
- Make sure to move slowly so the inspector can see the image clearly
- Allow camera a moment to focus when showing specific items
- Make sure any testing equipment, manometer, pressure valves… are already set up
- Turn off phone or tablet notifications during the video call
2. Start the Inspection:
- The inspector will initiate the Skype call at the scheduled time.
- Start the Inspection at the street view looking at the site.
- The address need to be shown.
- Follow the direction of the inspector.
- Please note down any correction needed.
Step 5. Inspection Result
Inspection Approval
Congratulations!
Inspection Failure
- You will need to schedule a re-inspection.
- Pay the re-inspection fee, if applicable.
- The inspector may provide you an option to send video or photo.
