Alachua County Comprehensive Plan
Evaluation & Update 2025-2026
About
Alachua County is in the process of evaluating and updating its Comprehensive Plan.
The Alachua County Comprehensive Plan is a document adopted by the Board of County Commissioners that articulates long-range strategies and policies that guide future development and decision-making. The Comprehensive Plan covers various subject areas such as land use, natural resources protection, housing, transportation, parks, economic development, community health, historic preservation, capital improvements, and energy.
Section 163.3191, Florida Statutes requires that, approximately every 7 years, each local government in Florida must evaluate its comprehensive plan to determine if any updates are necessary to reflect changes in state requirements since the last update of the comprehensive plan, and notify the state land planning agency as to its determination. The Statute also requires local governments to comprehensively evaluate and update the Plan to reflect changes in local conditions.
The last major evaluation and update of the Alachua County Comprehensive Plan was in 2018. The Comprehensive Plan currently covers a time period through the year 2040. The updated Plan will cover a time period through 2050.
